Seborrheic dermatitis (dermatitis seborrhoica - DS) is a frequent inflammmatory dermatosis of unknown etiology. The authors have reviewed the literature on etiopathogenesis and therapy for DS. The relations between DS and other dermatoses have been stressed. Significance of Pityrosporum ovale and other infections and non-infections factors in etiology of DS is discussed. Therapy is thoroughly discussed with special emphasis on new trends in topical (lithium compounds and terbinafine) and systemic (isotretionoin) treatment.
