Biological therapy with TNF-α antagonists has markedly influenced a clinical course of inflammatory bowel diseases in many patients. Unfortunately, treatment with infliximab and adalimumab, two drugs of this group currently available in Poland, is associated with a number of rare but serious adverse effects including, among others, hypersensitivity and symptoms related to drug administration, infections, demyelinating disorders and malignancies. Therefore, each candidate for such treatment deserves individualized approach and clinicians should always weight the benefit-to-risk ratio of anti-TNF-α therapy.
