The introduction of gastrointestinal endoscopy as a diagnostic investigation and subsequently as a therapeutic tool induce the great progress in pediatric gastroenterology. The number of endoscopy procedures performed and indications to endoscopy in children increase constantly. Like all invasive techniques endoscopy is accompanied by attendant risks and complications. Knowledge of these potential risks and their expected frequency can lead to improvement the quality of endoscopy to cause the least amount of harm to patients. Early recognition of complications and prompt intervention may minimize potential morbidity.
