Proton pump inhibitors (PPI): omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole and esomeprazole have the same mechanism of action; however different pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. Clinical importance of those differences is not totally elucidated. An action of PPI is also impacted by isoenzyme CYP2C19 polymorphism. The dose equivalency of the PPI is an additional problem.
