The methods of arterial stiffness assessment are used to detect early, subclinical pathological changes of the circulatory system, to estimate the progression of the circulatory system diseases and the cardiovascu-lar risk. There are some factors such as age, atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, renal failu-re, dyslipidaemia, obesity or high heart ratę, that decrease the arterial compliance. This article reviews the data concerning the potential use of ultrasound methods for the assessment of arterias stiffness. The limitations of currently used methods are discussed.
