- Munchausen syndrome by proxy, child abuse
Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a form ofchild abuse, made by person who takes care ofa child, usually by mother. She produces symptoms or malingers symptoms in her child. This leads in consequences to unnecessary diagnostics, unnecessary treatment or even to death. In the paper short history ofMunchausen byproxy syndrome was presented. The mostfrequent symptoms such as apnea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, cyanosis, seizures, loss of consciousness, bleeding ear were pointed. The methods of producing symptoms were analysed. Some examples ofcasesfrom the literature and the epidemiological data were stated. We also presented the diagnostic criteria and the procedures after diagnosis including safety of child as the most important. The paper includes also some examples when oldpatients orpets were "by proxy" victims.
