Human milk is the best source of nutrition for the infant, especially during the first 4-6 months of life. Co-mercial infant formulas are designed to mimie breast milk composition as much as possible. The main differences in terms of fat concern LCPUFA content, types of fatty acids present and factors affecting their absorption. The role of LCPUFA, p-palmitate and MCT oil in infant formuła and special formuła is discussed.
