End-stage coronary artery disease, refractory to medical and invasive treatment is a difficult therapeutic challenge without unequivocal solution nowadays. Despite increasing longevity, improving of medical care and growing number of percutaneous coronary interventions and coronary artery bypass grafts, the number of patients disqualified from further classical treatment is still rising. The authors reviewthe guidelines from Joint Study Group of European Society of Cardiology concerning diagnosis and treatment of refractory angina and some recent studies dedicated to assessment of new therapeutic modalities in this group of patients.
