Vascular diseases have become a major problem both in Europę and North America. Rapid development of diagnostic techniques results in increased number of non-cardiosurgical vascular procedures. Non-cardiosurgical vascular procedures (NVP) are performed mainly in the elderly patients (over 60 years old). In year 2025 this population will increase up to 225 mln. Cardiac complications are the major reason of morbidity and mortality in this group of patients.
The prevalence of these complications is close to 10% and 30-days mortality in NVP group is twice as high as population undergoing generał surgery (5-6%), 5-years mortality is close to 45%. These cardiac complications are mainly caused by ischemic heart disease. 50-70% of patients in this group suffer from ische-mic heart disease. Risk stratification protocols have often been modified during last 15 years. The latest stan-dards of American medical societies recomend detailed clinical asessment before NVP in some cases with additional specialized testes: dobutamine echocardiography and coronary angiography.
