Inflammatory process is one of the most widely studied issues in modern cardiology. Persistent inflammatory response is linked to the pathogenesis of ischeamic heart disease, heart failure, accelerated atherosl-cerosis. Inflammation is suspected to be the main factor destabilizing atherosclerotic plaque, thus causing acute coronary syndromes. In recent years cardiac surgeons have paid much more attention to the syste-matic inflammatory response syndrom (SIRS) in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). That is realeted to the number of postoperative complications possibly due to the inflammatory re-action. The aim of an article is to analyze the factors which stimulate inflammatory response during the cardiac surgery treatment. The most important are those factors wchich are controllable both preoperatively and perioperatively.
