Gated SPECT is a novel approach to radionuclide myocardial study offering the potential of simultaneous imaging of left ventricular perfusion and function and providing quantitative measures of left ventricular con-tractility. The study allows the measurementsof left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic volume and glo-bal ejection fraction, as well as provides polar maps of regional values of ejection fraction, systolic thicke-ning and motion (measured in absolute distance units - mm). Among the clinical applications of gated SPECT, the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, evaluation of severity and extent of perfusion abnormalities and left ventricular systolic function after myocardial infarction, as well as prognosis in coronary artery disease and detection of viable myocardium should be emphasized.
